THE
REVIEWS ARE IN!
Ive
read dozens and dozens of parenting books throughout my 15 years
of being a mom, not to mention working online as a parenting blogger.
Ive always gravitated towards books that are truth-tellers
and ones devoted to sharing the real and the raw when it comes
to parenting. These are the books that truly share and teach and
help other parents out there looking for guidance. Michael A.
Batteys The Parent Trap Columns vol. 1 is an
exceptional and extraordinary release of his columns that make
you laugh, make you have ah-ha moments and serve as
wonderful and powerful lessons for parents. I appreciate his honesty
and his wit throughout all of his columns! A true must read!

With an
open heart and plenty of good humor, podiatrist/dad of three Michael
Battey takes us on a tour of the parenting milestones many of
us will pass, but few of us will ponder. Thanks to him, we get
to relive a lot of good times (and some harder ones) with a smile
of recognition.

My favorite
kind of writing is like a friend talking to you. That's not easy
to do, but Mike Battey has a gift for it, and on a subject you'll
relate to - a dad navigating teens, family and life.

One word
that comes to mind after reading Dr. Michael Batteys Parent
Trap Columns Volume I and II? Refreshing. Its refreshing
to hear parenting wisdom from the perspective of a real baby boomer
dad who is doing the best he can in this imperfect world of modern
day parenting. This book makes a great gift for parents who need
a spoonful of reality (and humor) to help the teen years go by.

Its
easier to appreciate the nuances and stories years later as a
young adult, and gain from my past in such a unique way through
the perspective of my father. The collection brings life and wise
observation to the everyday of a nuclear family setting that anybody
can enjoy regardless of age.

Im
so proud of you for accomplishing everything youve wanted
to do so far. Thank you so much for being there for all my soccer
and softball games, swimming lessons, as well as my gymnastics
meets. One of my most memorable times with you was when we drove
through Wickford on the way to Bonnet Shores listening to Drift
Away by Uncle Kracker when I was around 5-years-old.

My dad
has quite a memory, so much so, that on random nights at the dinner
table, he would announce to the family, "Well, it was a year
ago today that..." and then recall a vacation we were on,
a dinner we had gone to, or a special event that occurred. In
a sense, this volume of columns is just that: him recalling the
memories of our family life, and inviting us to reflect on them
with him.

WHAT
ELSE THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT
"THE PARENT TRAP COLUMNS"
The
publishing of The
Parent Trap Columns
offers parents of teens the opportunity to read what you might
have missed the first time around - some wonderfully insightful
advice about raising teens in changing times. While the world
is moving fast, many truths about parenting remain timeless, and
Battey shares the truths he and his wife Susan learned (sometimes
the hard way!) over many years of parenting themselves. The columns
are a quick, witty read packed with powerful messages that will
resonate with anyone raising teenagers today.

I
write columns because I have to - it's my job. Mike Battey does
it because he wants to, which makes his work real and relateable.
His stuff is like a friend sharing the universal things all parents
go through.

As the
editor of a weekly newspaper, The East Greenwich Pendulum for
14 years, I was always on the lookout for talented writers from
the community to fill out our opinion papers with relevant local
material. Sometimes you get lucky and such material falls into
your lap. Michael Battey was such a case. I got a letter in the
mail one day with an opinion piece on child-rearing from him and
recognized that there was a place in our paper for this sort of
editorial copy. Michael and I talked and we agreed to run a regularly-occurring
column on the difficulties of raising children in the 21st Century,
especially in an affluent, competitive town such as East Greenwich,
RI. Michael filled the bill dependably and admirably for nearly
a decade with his column "The Parent Trap", helping
parents raise their children and us raise our circulation. With
the release of a collection of his columns, it is good to see
that his timeless parental wisdom will be reserved in print form.
Congratulations, Michael.
